Wondering how to install the EVera™ charging station for electric cars? Whether you are the owner of an electric or rechargeable hybrid vehicle or a company that wishes to offer this service to its customers or employees, the installation of a charging station must take into account several criteria.
What are the criteria to consider when installing an electric car charging station?
Finding the right location
It is important that the installation of a charging station for electric cars be made in the right location. Make sure that the charging station is close enough to your power system in order to facilitate the delivery of sufficient power.
The location of electric car charging stations should be visible enough for potential users to easily locate them. Ideally, install them near the entrance to your building with very clear signage.
How do you install an electric vehicle charging station?
Installing an electric car charging station cannot be done by yourself. It requires the expertise of a master electrician or a contractor holding a proper electrical license.
When you purchase an EVera charging station, we provide you with an installation manual, and Bornes Québec teams are available to advise you on the installation and maintenance of the station.
How much does it cost to install a residential charging station?
The purchase of a simple residential charging station can vary between $799 and $999. Installation by a master electrician costs around CAN$400. However, you can receive up to $600 in financial assistance from the Québec government for the purchase and installation of a charging station.
For a commercial terminal, subsidies can go up to $5,000 per connector up to a maximum of $25,000 per fiscal year.
What are the types of charging stations and their characteristics?
There are 3 types of charging stations for electric cars available on the market: Charging stations level 1, 2, and 3.
Level 1 Charging stations
These terminals have an AC voltage of 120 volts (VAC). One is usually supplied with each rechargeable vehicle. Recharging time at 120 volts is 12 to 30 hours. These are the slowest charging stations. They are designed for private residential use.
Level 2 Charging stations
These terminals have an AC voltage of 240 volts (VAC). They generally take between 3 to 6 hours to charge a vehicle. They are ideal for places where users stay for several hours, such as at the workplace. The level 2 terminal is the most commonly used charger on the market. The EVera charging station is equipped with two level 2 chargers, each with a capacity of 30A, 240 VAC or 7.2 kW.
Level 2 terminals can also be a good residential choice. In this case, the Quebec government grant of $600 covers part of the purchase and installation cost.
Level 3 Charging stations
These terminals have a DC voltage of 400 volts (VDC). They are ideal for very fast recharging where customers spend very little time, less than an hour on-site, for example at service stations along the highways.
